Funny to see a faded soft landscape and then the stretch of what look like evergreen trees in bright green! Do they protect anything or serve a purpose do you know?

Those trees aren't native. They're either planted for aesthetic reasons, for lumber etc or to act as a windbreak for something. What these ones are for is anyone's guess but I suspect they were planted to augment the reservoir.
