Am I sending you spam?
from Richard D: SkyeGuy (bonio200) photos online on Mon 23/11/09 12:12

I have received a worrying message that suggests that unwanted 'spam' messages are being received - apparently from my Scotster identity - bonio200.

Is anyone else receiving uninvited or inappropriate messages which look to be coming from me?

I can, of course, assure everyone that I am most definitely NOT deliberately sending spam messages to anyone, either via Scotster or any of my own websites.

No, I haven't received anything like this from you though there have been two or three times when I have been e-mailed to say there was a message for me on Scotster then when I logged on it appeared to be one of these scams where somebody impersonates a young lady and says they would like to chat and asks you for your e-mail address.
Wish you could introduce me to a real young lady who likes a genuine kilted Scot!!!! Alex.

Cherry - I do not believe that reading a message received through Facebook can introduce a virus infection to your computer. And deleting the message won't delete an infection if you have already 'caught' it. Can anyone confirm this ?

I would suspect your computer slowed down because something attached to the message was downloading (probably a picture or video clip) and you deleting the message cancelled the download.

I would suggest you run a full virus scan, to be on the safe side.

Regarding the suggestion that I was responsible for inundating Scotster's email with spam messages, the response to this forum topic would suggest that either the original complainant had made a mistake by pointing the finger at me, or it was a one-off incident.

So maybe I can stop worrying! (I've changed my login password though...!)

Thanks to those who have been in touch. Now - can anyone help Alex find a kilted-scotsman-loving young lady?

Image files can contain Viruses/Trojans/Malware etc these days. So if the message had an image it's possible. If it was just text form and on Facebook I highly doubt it.

Facebook has issue on some computers in page loading and I would probably contribute that as being the issue. Sometimes an add embedded within the page code may hang causing your browser to slow down causing memory usage which in turn slows down your PC. Deleting the message probably refreshed the page and un-hung said add.
