The Gathering 2009 And The Homecoming
Postings on this topic in our 'Everything Scottish: Scottish Celebrations' chat forum
With the year of the homecoming well and truly underway will many of you be coming home to Scotland during 2009?
Yup. Will be home end of July until beginning of August. Hope to get a few events covered while I am there but not got down to the final planning yet.
I will be home in May and also back in August to go to the Runrig concert at Scone. Plan to holiday in Skye for a few days and catch the concert on the way back down.
My wife ( Maclass ) and I will be in Scotland with Clans MacNachtan, and Grant for The Gathering 2009. I have purchased a tree to be planted for the reforestation project in Teaghlach Wood. I just don't know what kind of tree it is. LOL
I am planning on being there the last 2 weeks of July.
Reminds me I'd better actually start making concrete plans.
My wife, my sister and I will be arriving home July fourth (some how perversely appropriate), touring Burns Country for a few days, walking the West Highland Way with some Friends and then my son, my daughter and son-in-law will join us for the Gathering and other activities with Clan Cochrane.
I will also be coming and will be participating with Clan Gunn activities while having some free time as well. Hopefully I will be meeting new friends too!
Good heavens. Maybe it was better to ask who ISN'T coming!?
Great to see so many coming over :)
Hi Charles,
Teaghlach will be a mixture of native tree varieties - in the main, oak, ash, birch, rowan etc.
Cheers,
Angus
With a wing and a prayer will be there! Need to reconnect.
The Clan MacDuff Society of America will be there. Unfortunately not all can make it so everyone else have a great time for those of us left behind.
Spending first two weeks of August in Scotland.
yuppers...comming on the 22 of July and staying for 6 nights...although I may have to make it 10. Going to do whatever strikes my fancy on each day as it comes:)
I wouldn't miss it for anything!
I'm coming home and bringing others with me as well.
Heading up a group of women on a 14 day tour of this wonderful country ending with the Gathering. There's still room if any women aged 21 & over are interested in joining us!
I'm actually going to be there from 7 July through 3 August! Can't Wait!!
Hello. I'm a new addition to this site. My husband and I and our 9 year old grandson will be coming over from E. Tennessee for the Gathering. We have reservations from 23 Jul to 2 Aug and will be doing some touring to introduce the grandson to his heritage.
I was there for The Gathering, and am trying to get back for the last couple of weeks of August.... *keeping my fingers crossed!*

Good lord, you're keen! ;)
Oh it's a shame you didn't know about the site last weekend. We had a grand ole knees-up at the other end of the Royal Mile:

What the... shoot!! That sounds like it was fun!! You bet ill be keeping up on the events so I dont miss out on anymore... :)
What an AMAZING weekend. I have been to Scotland many times, and always love how welcome I feel when I'm there. But this trip was truly special. I was moved to tears, as were many others, to see the sea of pipers all in different tartan. To hear the skirl of the pipes surrounding us and to march up the Royal Mile in the parade with the 8000 or so that were marching too, and the 20,000+ that lined the street to cheer us on. Unbelievable. I hated to leave.

So was I!!! That was one of my favorite parts... :) My friends who didnt go and watch the video get mad at me cause I couldnt hold the camera steady - it was so emotional!
It was really something special to be there...
I'll have to join the chorus, It was amazing. We spent 25 days in Scotland this reip, met many Scots saw many incredible sites, walked the West Highland Way and were continually blown away by the experiences but the culmination was walking up the "Mile"on Saturady night.
Sunday was good too with hearing Dougie play then laying in the sun as The Battlefield Band waove their magic. Finally, getting to meet some of you fine Scotsters at The Wash. Thanks to all the People of Scotland who made us feel welcome.

I agree. It was wonderful meeting some of you at the pub. You were all fabulous! In addition, the people of Scotland were wonderful as well...no matter where I was, they were always willing to help if I found myself a bit lost. :D
Hi all - we have put loads of pics of The gathering Event on the Trees4Scotland website if you want to have a look:
