    Question: Ticket Sales on matchdays
    from David I (german_highlander) photos on Wed 25/11/09 07:00

Does anyone happen to know why the Scottish Rugby Union does not sell tickets to the public on match days?

I find this absolutely amazing, especially after the historic win over Australia last Saturday. How can the SRU justify such a decision. Do the think everyone has internet access or what?

Any input or expansion on the subject welcome.

    David

I ws a bit surprised when I heard this too, David.

Maybe it's to do with stewarding (amount of syewards needed) and if there is to be any area of the stadium not opened. I believe they sell the tickets block by block to cut down on costs if there isn't a big demand for tickets.

It's been happening in soccer for years that you cannot buy a ticket on match days even when all seats are not taking. I can remember going to cup semi final against Aberdeen and meeting two young lads desperate for tickets. People could pick up pre paid tickets but not buy them on the day

It also saves on a build up of people outside the ground trying to get tickets..stops delayed kick offs and any possible trouble when people cant get in.

Remember we're talking Scotland, sport and alcohol....

Thanks for the responses. Sounds like cost cutting exercise to me based on what youve written. But I thought the whole idea was to promote rugby in Scotland and removing the ability of spontaneous numbers being able to go along on the day to get a ticket is not helping the cause.

Understand the crowds and alcohol thing, but rugby crowds are not to be compared to football crowds in my opinion.

Not inside the ground no. Alcohol is still very much involved but having been to both and obviously rugby has the better atmosphere, but people still get irate very quickly when there are delays/problems/late entry to games.

    Good point Lesley.

I just hope someone in the SRU wakes up to the fact that the potential is definately there for selling tickets on the day, but as always with these kind of things it will take time and some form of protest I guess.

I do agree - its a missed opportunity.

I dont see how they couldnt even set up a temporary ticket stand far enough away from the ground where it wouldnt cause congestion or any problems. I've seen it done at football matches often enough...and if kick off is 3, close the ticket booth at half 2!

Doesnt take a genius to work it out - but then the SRU isnt run by women ;o)

How would you ken anything about crowds? You're a Dunfermline fan!

    Oi! No need !

I have been to games where there have been crowds! Admittedly not many involving the Pars.....although there was that game at Hampden...well two actually....when we knocked Hibs out of the Scottish Cup. Then of course there have been our numerous cup finals over the last few years.....oh and when Barcelona made Hibs looked like little boys at Murrayfield....and Hearts too lol

And i have been to the rugby too.....and am going in March for the Scotland v England match....woo hoo!
