sounds ect.
from Julie M (jumac) photos on Sat 06/02/10 01:21

Iknow some people may laugh but i believe in the paranormal. Where i live when anyone is in the house by themselves or in bed we can hear someone walking around in various parts of the house and doors opening and closing. We have also heard the sounds of heavy breathing and whispering on the landing.we have also witnessed objects moving by themselves.I was wondering if it is a person .Anyone who knows of this subject any ideas as to what it could be.

Julie, I'm not laughing at all. I have inherited my parents house and when I was little, I used to get scared by the sound of breathing and footsteps in my room and on the top landing. I was told it was my own breathing I was hearing and I was imagining the footsteps. I recently moved back into my old room and, despite holding my breath, I STILL hear the breathing and I STILL hear the footsteps. My sister is a clairvoyant and clairaudient spirit medium and she has seen and heard the "entity" on the top landing. I am clairsentient (I sense presences and atmospheres) and I equally know all too well there is "something" there. I would add that whilst not fully clairaudient, just today (Friday, 5th February 2010) I was filing papers when I stopped suddenly as I heard "Wait for me" whispered in my right ear. Two girls in the work asked me what was up. I just smiled, went back to my work and said "Nothing. Just someone whispering in my ear." So I fully understand the whispering. By equal measure, a couple of months back I was at my desk working, looked up to clearly see a portly man in a three piece suit across the office, who smiled and nodded to me. I went back to my work and then thought "Who is that?" and looked up to find not only no-one there but there wasn't even a chair in the place I saw the said man.

I am also a Special Correspondent to the Fortean Times and have in the past been on ghost hunts. So be assured, I would be the last person to ridicule you and for what it's worth, you'll actually find many people on Scotster who understand your predicament and sympathise with you.

You mention things moving. Poltergeist activity can fall into two fields; spirit-based and psychokenesis (science does not discount the latter). It sounds to me like you have a spirit attempting to make contact with you. Have you lost and/or you greiving for a lost one? It may be helpful to seek out the help of reputable spiritualist church.

My late Mum, who I still feel around me, was very psychic Julie. I stand by what she always taught me and would ask you to remember this; "The dead cannot hurt you - it is the living who do that!"

God bless,

Leslie

No guesses here, but have you checked into the history of the property?

I am neither a believer nor a skeptic regarding such matters, but I'm quite fascinated by stories I've heard. A couple of Scotsters have recently posted info from The Drover's Inn, don't know if you had a chance to read it. Go to Wully's site or check with Davie W. if you're interested in reading of some similar experiences.

There is a lighthouse on the Oregon Coast near where I live. The light is no longer funtioning, and the keeper's house was transferred to the ownership of a local community college some years ago. In the course of renovating the buildings attic, carpenters and construction workers reported some very odd occurances. Tools stored neatly away in the evening when the workers went home would be found strewn around the room the next morning, though the building had been securely locked all night. A window was broken from the inside, again with the building having been locked. Several of the men reported having the inescapable sensation of having someone present in the room, watching them as they worked alone. One reported seeing the figure of a middle aged woman in Victorian mourning garb standing at the attic window, looking out to sea. Several workers couldn't take it, and quit the job, though the project was finally completed. Eventually someone checked into the history of the building and discovered tha, in fact, one of the early keeper's young daughter had been playing on the boulders at water's edge when a "sneaker wave" had caught her unaware and swept her out to sea. Her body was never recovered, and some believe that the grief-sticken mother was unable to "pass over" to the afterlife upon her death, and that some part of her soul, conciousness, energy etc. is still stuck in that attic, awaiting the return of her daughter.

The site is such a perfect setting for a "ghost story" that it would be easy for me to dismiss it as such, were it not for the fact that those workers seemed like very hard-headed, no-nonsense types who one would not ordinarily associate with tales of the occult or the supernatural. None of them attempted to profit from their accounts, and they were truly convinced that some unseen being occupied that room, and they felt like unwelcome intruders.

Find out what you can about the building's history. Chances probably aren't great that you'll find a lead, but you never know, and I for one would love to hear more if you do!

My Sister inherited the gift a little from our great grandmother who was Irish (need i say more). In her old house she would wake up regularly to see a woman in what looked like edwardian or victorian costume carry what looked like a baby across the room and lay it down by the window.

Her friend (who is our kiltmaker) really has it though; Many years ago she was in France on holiday - she was with her (then) husband in a supermarket when this old woman brushed against her - she got this huge cold feeling down one side then her husband stopped her - she was pushing a trolly and the handle was covered in blood. When she looked at her hands there was lots of blood over her palms and seemed to be pouring from wounds.

A shop assistant took her to the restroom to clean her up - they wiped her hands but found no trace of where it had come from.

The last house she lived in had a spirit called Ruby that moved stuff around including heavy ornaments) the house - turned on TVs and stereos at night. The house was behind the Erskine hospital that was for Ex Servicemen but before that had been a maternity hospital. A medium told her Ruby was a woman who had died during childbirth.

I've got lots more....

You've a damned sight more to fear from the living, than ever have to fear from the dead.

My sentiments exactly Davie! I've never been harmed by a spirit.

Great stories from everybody. I don't know exactly what I believe. But I believe something. I have often felt a presence of something that I could not see. I wouldn't call it a gift or extrasensory perception.

My parents once lived in a house where the tv would turn on in the middle of the night and their dog wouldn't even go in one of the bedrooms. He would just stand at the doorway and sometimes bark. My brother in law was over there one time and my parents were discussing the strange sounds with him. He laughed and said he didn't believe that nonsense. All of a sudden, there was a loud crash in the attic. For a man who ran his mouth all the time, that shut my brother in law up!

im totally with you on this one julie...when i moved into my house in carlisle i started having some very odd experiences...lying in bed at night and a voice shouted "bleah" in my ear....also a mans voice told me to "whist" which means be quiet(probably spelt that wrong) when i was cleaning my teeth,i felt someone stroking my hair, have been in my dining room with my back to the door thinking i have seen my daughter walk past into the kitchen and have gone in there to find it empty, have also walked into rooms and smelled pipe smoke,my mum is a spirtualist and she told me that its the spirts of my great grandad and my granny, have also had a phantom cat walking around on my bad, then settling down on my legs lol,i was never scared as it gave me hope that there is a life after death,my mum did say that if it was scaring me then all i had to do was tell them, and it would stop, funny thing is my mum has actually moved into my old house and the same things are happening to her!

Which bit of Carlisle are you in? I lived there for a year and there was one area (around Stanwix) that was rife. I had a few workmates who lived there and they had all had experiences.

The rumor was that a lot of the stones used to build some of the older houses there were taken from Hadrian's wall. One friend used to see a Roman soldier walk through her house regularly.

The place where I worked (Kingstown) was supposed to have a ghost - I worked there late on my own a few times - didn't see anything but doors would open and close by themselves often.

Ive noticed that seems to be a regular occurence when people recall their experiences of doors opening and closing. And also lights and other electricals switching on or off.We have our hifi volume turned up regularly.Seems to be many ways spirits use to get noticed. As well as the noises and whispering. Im not frightened but its when you least expect it.Their are times i go to bed and the only when i can describe it is like many voices fading and getting louder and its like their all chanting .I also hear my name whispered.

Ihave not found any history regarding the house or surrounding areas.I am of the understanding that its not always the case that it could be anything to do with the house history anyway. It could be due to someone being sensitive .ect.Thats why i asked if anyone had any ideas about this.Tried looking for anywhere that has a spiritualist church near to us but their too far away.

quickfind:jumac > "I am of the understanding that its not always the case that it could be anything to do with the house"

That could be true - this happened to a friend of mine.

She was a single parent with a very young daughter living in Glasgow. Things started happening in the house - daft things like the remote going missing for days then turning up on the arm of the settee, jewellery going missing, at first she put it down to her little girl but some things were not consistent.

Then one night she was giving her daughter a bath when she started a fit of the giggles - my friend asked her what she was laughing at and she just started pointing to the door and going 'funny man'

She asked: 'whats he doing?'
Daughter said 'stamping his feet and sticking out his tongue'

This unnerved her quite a bit and asked a friend to come in who was a psychic. The first thing he asked was if she had bought something old recently. She had bought this really old pair of worn boots from a stall in Paddys Market (not to wear but to draw). He told her that this was the source. There was an old man in the house that these boot belonged to - get rid of the boots and it will cease.

She did and indeed the problems stopped but not before...

The night she got rid of them two friends of hers (a married couple) were staying over. they had slept on the living room floor and when she came in the next morning they were as white as sheets. They told her that a few years ago the wife had lost her wedding ring. they had turned the house upside down and never found it. They had woken up that morning and their between them on the pillow sat the ring!
