My sister has adopted Ernie! he arrives on Monday at his new home.
Well done your sister - and congratulations, Ernie, on your new home - hopefully a long and happy new life.
There are so many abandonned and neglected animals around - I do wish more people would adopt rather than insisting on buying new pedigree pups etc.
On the other side of the coin, I was hearing something on the radio the other day about the growing number of people in the 'credit crunch' (mainly pensioners) who are neglecting themselves in order to make sure their beloved pets are well-fed and healthy.
Well done indeed.
Always good to hear a happy ending.
I recently joined the SSPCA, i'm not in a position to take on another dog, but wanted to help, especially with the recession.
I would urge that anyone thinking of donating money to help animals in Scotland to go to the SSPCA and not the RSPCA as they do not operate in Scotland. But didn't stop them canvassing for donations here.
I agree with donations to the SSPCA, the RSPCA should be ashamed of themselves hoodwinking folks in Scotland into giving them money when NONE of it goes to help Scottish shelters or the animals they care for.
I will post some pics of Oscar (his new name) when he arrives next week.
My wee mutt was a rescue dog.. no-one wanted him.. he been an absolute little gem too. All those people that looked at him and then rejected him for whatever reason they had missed out on a cracking dug. I'm glad they did choose to reject him though cos he's my wee honey

Looking forward to seeing them.
I volunteer for the BC SPCA - Vancouver Branch, in the cat wellness program. Despite the rude staff, I still go in on a weekly basis to spend time with the cats. Its great fun! Not to mention, I've seen some of the cats doing crazy/funny sh*t!!!
Well done to your sister for taking on this poor wee dog. I have 4 dogs and would love more but my daughter would go nuts...
Well done! Unfortunately our four legged friends do not faire well even here in the States. I help with a rescue service. We have people just drop off unwanted pets in our area. So your sister's adoption of Ernie just made me smile.
Well done!
My dog Sunday was a taken to the shelter as a tramp. She'd lived in the streets for some time. When I visited that shelter and laid my eyes on her I melted. That was 10 years ago. From the first time on at home, she never ran away, never let us out of her sight. She was even well raised and very obedient. Now a days she is a decadent 'old' but very vivid lady :)
not 4 legged in this case more 3! pictures soon, I am now planning a visit to Edinburgh just to see him ....mad me!
Up-date on Ernie.
My sister has been visiting him a few times a week to get him used to her and her 2 dogs. A couple of weekends ago she took my mum to meet him, he was fine till mum went to stroke him and he snapped at her, catching her fingers but not breaking the skin, not a good move on his part! The staff at the rescue found out his back claws were ingrown so put his grumpy behaviour down to pain, he was forgiven and had an operation to remove them and his dangly bits hoping this would change things. All was progressing well, dogs tolerating each other but nothing to worry about. A few days ago she went for her last visit before he came to live with her, she had chicken as a treat for the 3 of them, all were munching away when Ernie went for her youngest dog biting its bottom lip quite badly, mayhem ensued as you can imagine, blood everywhere as the mouth bleeds a lot even though it was not a huge bite.
After much soul searching and tears it was decided Ernie would be better with a family as an only dog. He has now gone to live with a retired couple, they have been marvelous and have given my sister their phone number and address so she can visit Ernie if she wants.
Not quite the outcome we hoped for Ernie but the best for him in the end. All the dogs well being had to come first.
Good luck to wee Ernie.
What a shame that Ernie couldn't fit in with your sister's family. Still, as you say, the important thing is he has found a loving home, and hopefully the calm and quiet setting he needs to settle down and start a happy new life.
