    ESA if refused appeal

From recent experience helping a friend I would advise anyone who has been refused ESA after the farcical computor based assesment to lodge an appeal.
Then you get the chance in front of a panel to discuss your case, when the original meeting allows no form of discussion.
My friend won her appeal and will get her back money in 3 months time.

There is now a computer points based means test on how you can cope with a job physically and mentally. Prior to the new system you could be off sick on a doctors note only. The questions are asked by an appointed person with a medical background employed by a company which won a govt contract to conduct the test. No discussion takes place and the company is encouraged to pass fewer people as unfit for work. This is not logical because you can then be sent for a job interview and be told your medical state make s you unable to do the work.

If you get insufficient pointsan appeal can be made and only then do you get the right to discuss your actual situation with a panel of assesors. We waited 5 months for the appeal meeting and the stress on my friend was a bad issue.

Yea, the points-based eligibility for certain benefits and calculated by a computer programs has been used in Canada for more than a decade. The appeal process has also been eliminated for certain people, specifically those who have defrauded the government for benefits.
